Sneak Peak

Why This Book Matters?

We experience over 200 distinct ways to feel our emotions—but many of us, even as adults, can name only a few. Big feelings can be confusing, overwhelming, or even scary—especially for children just beginning to recognize and express what’s happening inside. And the truth is, adults often struggle too, not just to name what they feel, but to navigate it with calm and clarity.

Feelings Forecast: Understanding the Weather Inside of You!

What are feelings and emotions?

💡

Emotions are what your body does when something big happens—like when your heart beats fast because you're scared, or you jump and smile when you're excited.

🧠

Feelings are what your heart and brain tell you about what’s going on inside—like “I feel cloudy (or nervous),” or “I feel sunshiny (really happy) right now.”

Think of emotions like the weather changing in the sky, and feelings as the words we use to describe that weather.

🌧️

Anxiety

What it is: Anxiety is when your body and brain feel nervous, worried, or uneasy—especially about things that haven’t even happened yet.

What it feels like: Worry can feel like a gray day that warns us that the weather is changing —racing, worry thoughts, fluttering hearts. This story helps kids express feelings of worry and anxiety, and shows how deep breaths, grounding love, and Momma Storm’s calm can quiet even the stormiest gusts inside.

💧

Sadness

What it is: Sadness is a heavy feeling we get when something hurts our heart—like missing someone, losing something, or just feeling blue.

What it feels like: Like a soft rain that falls without warning, sadness is gentle but heavy. In the book, sadness isn’t something to hide or rush away. It’s held, honored, and understood—because tears, like rain, help us grow.

🌫️

Boredom

What it is: Boredom is when your mind and body feel tired of doing nothing and you don’t know what to do next.

What it feels like: Boredom is like a still, gray sky—waiting for something to happen. Instead of brushing it off, this story shows how even quiet moments have meaning, and how imagination and connection can bring color back to the day.

🌬️

Alone

What it is: Alone is the feeling of being by yourself on the inside, even if people are around you. It’s when your heart feels quiet or separate.

What it feels like: Being alone can feel like standing in the middle of a big, quiet sky with no one else around. Like a single raindrop falling while the world is dry. What’s the Weather Inside of You? helps children see that even when you feel alone on the inside, love and connection are still there—waiting to shine through, just like the sun behind the clouds. Rain's character embodies this feeling and she is reminded that love is never far.

☀️

Joy

What it is: Joy is the feeling of happiness, delight, or excitement that bubbles up inside—like when you laugh or feel proud.

What it feels like: Joy is the sunshine bursting through! It dances, sparkles, it's silly and happy like Sky's character- it makes everything feel lighter. The book celebrates joy not as something we must chase, but something that naturally returns—especially when we feel seen and loved. This is expressed in an instant when Sky's and her sister Rain had a sweet joyful moment of bonding and connection.

🍃

Peace

What it is: Peace is the calm and quiet feeling that comes when everything feels safe, settled, secure and calm.

What it feels like: Peace is the gentle breeze after the storm—a quiet, steady knowing that everything is tranquil. Momma Storm helps children find peace by showing them how to sit with and embrace ALL their feelings.

❤️

Love

What it is: Love is the warm, strong feeling of connection, care, and safety we feel with people who truly see and accept us.

What it feels like: Love is the sky that holds all the weather. It doesn’t erase our hard feelings—it surrounds them, holds them, and reminds us we are never alone. Love is the thread that runs through every page of What’s the Weather Inside of You? Love never fails!

01. What makes this book different from other children’s books about feelings?

This book is rooted in real family experiences and written by a licensed clinician, mother of three, and professional with a background in linguistics and language communication. It’s infused with lived wisdom, clinical insight, and the authentic voices of children themselves. It doesn’t just describe emotions—it teaches children how to sit with them, move through them, and feel deeply supported in the process.

Families can read the book aloud at bedtime, during quiet moments, or as part of a regular emotional check-in. Classrooms can use it to support social-emotional learning. The included activities, reflection questions, and affirmations make it easy to turn each reading into a healing conversation.

Momma Storm is a steady, loving presence—never afraid of big feelings, and never rushing them away. Like a real storm, her strength isn’t in pushing emotions down, but in creating safety, space, and calm. She shows children that peace doesn’t mean no storms—just that love can hold them all.
